The Annual Magic City Sports Medicine Conference is an annual sports medicine conference that focuses on the education of athletic trainers, physical therapists and other allied health care fields.

“Native American Athlete – past, present and future” – Featuring Dr. Wade Davies, Dr. Steven Williamson & Kola Bad Bear

  • >A discussion of the Native American athlete and the influence the culture has on sport. The impact of family, faith, alternative medicine and cultural considerations will be discussed.<

 

Session 2: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

“Clinical Considerations in Rural Clinics” – Jon Sunchild, ATC

  • >Discuss different cultural attitudes and beliefs health care professionals can recognize to better meet the patient’s needs from the Native American community.<

Roundtable Discussion with Dr. Wade Davies, Dr. Steven Williamson, Jon Sunchild, ATC and Kola Bad Bear

  • >Discuss through question and answer format that understanding different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds can help healthcare providers provide better quality of care.<

“Lab: Braces – How to fit and adjust orthopedic braces”  – Ross Powell and Austin Reay

  • >Discuss through an interactive lab the common orthopedic braces including proper fitting techniques.<

“Biologic and Non-Biologic Interventions in Sports Medicine” – Ben Phipps, MD

  • >Discuss injectable and other treatment options, their indications and evidence in sports and musculoskeletal medicine and care.<

Pediatric ACL Reconstruction” – Josh Bowler, MD

  • >Differentiate between pediatric and adult ACL reconstructions with emphasis on the pediatric population.<

“Tensionless Rotator Cuff Repair” – Steve Klepps, MD

  • >Discuss the newest technique for surgical repair of the rotator cuff and considerations for patient care.<

 

Session 4: 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM

“Lab: Orthopedic Hand Splints”  – Garrett Baldry, OT and Kailey Lewis-Smith, OT

  • >Discuss through an interactive lab the common upper extremity splinting techniques.<

“Weight Debate” Anna Kasperick, RD

  • >Discuss the effects of chronic dieting, popular mainstream diets and the use of medication for weight management.<

“Lab: An introduction to barefoot training and isometrics”– Dayne Dyer, CSCS & Justin Smith, MS, CSCS, SCCC

  • >Discuss through an interactive lab the evidence behind barefoot training and how to implement it into your training regime.<

BOC Compliance Statements

Ortho Montana is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education to Certified Athletic Trainers.

BOC Continuing Education Credits available. PT credits available. NSCA Credits Pending Approval.

Certificates will be emailed by July 1st after completion of the post conference survey and verification of attendance.

AMP Cancellation Policy

A full refund is provided to all participants who cancel at least 5 days in advance. Written notice is to be provided to the conference coordinator.

AMP Grievance Policy

Any attendees who are dissatisfied with the programming should report the specifics of their dissatisfaction to the coordinator of the specific programming within 10 business days of the programming.

The coordinator of the programming has 10 business days to investigate the grievance & address the attendees concerns.
