You play like a girl
Women have made great strides in athletics over the last 40 years. Today, they run marathons, play volleyball, basketball, softball and soccer, are active gymnasts, skaters and tennis champions, and are household names in skiing, snowboarding, swimming - and they're just getting started.
And just as young women are as active- and as athletic- as their male counterparts, they are also subject to sports-related injuries. Sometimes, they are even more likely to sustain such an injury, especially when it comes to damaging their ACL's.
Studies have shown that young female athletes are 2 to 10 times more likely to incur an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). Exactly why is still being researched; however, it may be do to hormonal changes, anatomical and neuromuscular factors and difference in muscle strength and corresponding body weight.
